Clan Cochrane Scotland Trip 2024 was enjoyed by all who were able to go!
The trip (June 12 – 19, 2024) exceeded expectations. Jam packed with Cochrane sites, history, and the highlight of the week: a wonderful tour and tea with the Earl and his wife at Lochnell Castle.
This trip was planned with Thistle Dhu, a well known and highly recommended Scottish Tour Company. Our guide was Lord Jamie Semphill, knowledgeable, humorous, with excellent “herding” skills for our group. Our driver David kept us all amazed with his skill in driving a huge tour bus along very small roads and through some exciting town situations. if you know someone who went on the tour, ask them about Lord Jamie and David.
Events included 3 nights in Oban: Reception and Tour with Earl of Dundonald at Lochnell Castle on the seaside of Oban, a ferry over to the Isles of Mull and Iona, and free time in Oban to enjoy the town and its points of interest.
One night in Glasgow – tours of Paisley Abbey, Dundonald Castle, and Old Auchens House where we were welcomed by city officials and staff of Dundonald Castle Historical Society. Check out the Dundonald Castle Facebook page for a bit of info and some pictures of our group.
3 nights in Edinburgh – Tours of Culross, Private early access to Edinburgh Castle and the Battle of Prestonpans, Scone Palace (the crowning place of Scottish Kings) and the Black Watch Museum.
The only complaint was just not enough time to explore some of the sites, and that means we must do this again! The next tour will be planned with feedback from participants of this tour. It already promises to be great and while a few sites will be repeated as integral parts of Cochrane heritage, other stops are already on the list.
Keep checking for more information in another Cochrane Scotland tour in 3 or 4 years!!
